Create or modify the Indoors point of interest symbols

Available with the ArcGIS Indoors Pro or ArcGIS Indoors Maps extension.

ArcGIS Indoors comes with a default set of symbols for displaying features on the map and in the Explore panel for Indoor Viewer and the Indoors mobile apps. The default symbols are preconfigured in the map templates and styles available in the Product Data for ArcGIS Indoors installation package and provide a framework for categorizing and symbolizing features. If these symbols do not meet your requirements, you can modify the existing set of symbols or create your own.

Create or modify symbol images

Indoors supports the use of PNG or SVG symbols for the Explore panel and custom style file.

Update the Indoors categories

Once you create the symbol set, the default categories provided in the map templates can be modified to include changes. You can delete categories in the templates that are no longer required, change the default icons for existing categories to the new symbols, and create new categories and category groups that are symbolized using your custom icons.

Note:

Indoors only supports one level of subcategories in a category group.

To modify the categories and groups in the map templates, complete the following steps:

  1. Start ArcGIS Pro.
  2. Open or create an ArcGIS Indoors map.
  3. Click the View tab and click Indoors > Configure Indoors Categories.

The Configure Indoors Categories pane appears.

  4. In the Categories view, find the categories or groups you want to modify, right-click them, and click Edit Icons.
    Note:

You can also modify icons from the Layers and Explore views.

  5. Upload the new symbols.

Add or modify the ArcGIS Pro style file

If you created custom icons, you can add or modify the style for ArcGIS Pro to maintain consistency.

Ensure consistency

It is critical that categories and map layers align to provide the best user experience. Ensure there is consistency between the icons used for categories and category groups, and the symbols used to display the corresponding features on the map.
