Visualize floor-aware data using the floor filter

Available with the ArcGIS Indoors Pro or ArcGIS Indoors Maps extension.

Once you define the indoor layers properties for a map or scene, the floor filter appears as an on-screen control. You can interactively filter the floor plan data in the following ways:

  • Display a site (if you configured a sites layer in the map properties)
  • Filter to a single facility and level
  • Filter multiple facilities to the same vertical order

The floor filter also filters features from layers that are defined as floor aware.

Note:

Features from layers that are not defined as floor aware and features that have a null value in the field configured for the Floor Field parameter are not affected by the floor filter and are always visible. If a feature's floor field contains a value that is not null that does not match any value in the unique identifier field of the layer that you set for the Floors parameter, the feature is filtered by the floor filter and is not visible in the map or scene.

Changes you make to the floor filter are saved when you save the map. If you share the map to an ArcGIS organization, any changes to the floor filter are shared along with it. Sharing floor-aware maps and scenes is supported for ArcGIS Online and for ArcGIS Enterprise 10.9.1 and later.

Floor filter controls

To interact with the floor filter, move the pointer over the tool. You can optionally collapse the floor filter for a simplified version of the controls, or minimize it when you don't need to actively switch between floors.

1

Enable single facility filtering

When single facility filtering is enabled, you can choose a site (if sites are configured), a facility, and a level. The map filters the selected facility while displaying levels in all other buildings that have a vertical order of 0. You can change the settings so that only the selected facility is displayed.

2

Enable multifacility filtering

When multifacility filtering is enabled, you can choose a site (if sites are configured) and a vertical order. All facilities in the selected site (or in the whole dataset, if sites are not configured) are filtered to the selected vertical order.

3

Choose a site

Click the arrow to open a list of available sites. The option to choose a site appears when a site layer is configured in the map's properties. Selecting a site zooms to the site's extent in the map and specifies which facilities are selected when using multifacility filtering.

You can use the search bar to search for sites in the dataset.

4

Choose a facility

Click the arrow to open a list of available facilities. Selecting a facility zooms to the facility's extent. The option to choose a facility only appears when using single facility filtering.

You can use the search bar to search for facilities in the dataset. If you choose a facility from a different site, the related site feature is selected automatically.

5

Choose a floor (Single facility filtering)

Choose a floor order (Multifacility filtering)

When single facility filtering is enabled, click the arrow to open a list of available floors for the selected facility. Selecting a floor filters the data of the selected facility to the selected floor, while other facilities show the ground floor. When you first choose a facility, the floor is set to the level with a vertical order of 0 by default.

When multifacility filtering is enabled, click the arrow to open a list of available vertical order values for floors. All facilities in the selected site (or in the whole dataset, if sites are not configured) are filtered to the selected vertical order.

6

Settings

Open the Settings pane to adjust display settings when using single facility filtering. You can choose one of the following options:

  • Display floors in all facilities—Filters the selected facility to the selected level and displays levels with a vertical order of 0 for all other facilities.
  • Display selected floor only—Filters the selected facility to the selected level and does not display levels from any other facilities. If the Facilities layer is turned on in the table of contents, the building footprints are still visible in the map.

7

Zoom To

Click to center and zoom the map to the selected site or facility in single facility mode, or on the selected site in multifacility mode. If no sites or facilities are set, the map centers and zooms to the extent of the data.

8

Collapse

Click to collapse the floor filter controls into a simplified toolbar.

9

Enable / Disable floor filter

Click to enable or diable the floor filter.

When the floor filter is disabled, all features are displayed.

10

Minimize floor filter

Click to hide or show the floor filter controls.

Floor filter navigation

When you define a map as floor aware and the floor filter appears, the map is automatically filtered to display the ground floor (the level where vertical order is 0) for all the facilities. You can disable the floor filter tool to remove this default filter. When you define a scene as floor aware, all floors for all facilities are displayed by default.

You may want to disable the floor filter to interact with other features in the map or scene or to select filtered features for geoprocessing or other analyses.

Choose single or multifacility filtering

If you set the floor filter to use single facility filtering, you can filter your indoor data to a specific floor in a specific facility of a site. If you set the floor filter to use multifacility filtering, you can filter multiple facilities to all display the same floor, based on the vertical order value of levels in different facilities.

The selected filtering mode remains active if the floor filter controls are collapsed or minimized.

Choose a site

If you set a layer for the Sites parameter in the map's indoor layers properties, the option to select a site appears in the floor filter when using single or multifacility filtering. This allows you to quickly navigate between features located in different sites, such as multiple university campuses or business complexes.

Choose a site in the floor filter to change the map extent to the site. Choosing a site does not filter the features for other sites, and they are still displayed in the map or scene.

Choose a facility

If you did not configure the Sites parameter in the map's indoor layers properties, the option to select a facility appears in the floor filter when using single facility filtering. The facility selection option does not appear when using multifacility filtering.

Choose a facility in the floor filter to change the map extent to the facility. The ground floor is displayed by default.

Choose a floor

When using single facility filtering, the floor selection option displays the list of levels for the facility. In the default view, levels are listed by the Name field value. In the collapsed view, levels are listed by the Short Name field value. Choose a floor to filter the map or scene and display that floor for the facility when using single facility filtering.

When using multifacility filtering, the floor order selection option displays a list of the vertical orders for levels. Choose a vertical order value to filter all the facilities in the Facilities layer to that vertical order. This option can be particularly useful when visualizing connected interior spaces.

Export a layout

You can export a floor filter view as a file (such as a PDF) by creating a layout. This allows you to print the view or share it electronically. A layout is made of one or more maps, along with supporting elements, such as a title, a legend, and descriptive text.

To create a map layout and export it, complete the following steps:

  1. Use the floor filter to create a map view that contains the data you want to export.
  2. On the Insert tab, in the Project group, click New Layout New Layout.
  3. Choose a page size and orientation from the drop-down menu to create a layout.
  4. On the Insert tab, in the Map Frames group, click Map Frame Map Frame.
  5. Choose a floor-aware map or scene.
  6. On the layout, drag the pointer to create the map frame.
  7. Configure any additional layout properties you want to include.
  8. On the Share tab, click Export Layout.

    The Export Layout pane appears.

  9. Set the properties, and click Export.
