Publish the parcel fabric to ArcGIS Online

In ArcGIS Pro 3.4 or later, the parcel fabric can be published from a file or mobile geodatabase to ArcGIS Online. The parcel fabric layers are published as hosted layers where ArcGIS Online hosts the layers, and the data that populates them.

Deploying a parcel fabric to ArcGIS Online is useful when you need to expose parcel data on the web but do not have your own ArcGIS Server site. However, some capabilities such as versioning and geodatabase topology will not be available.

Manage editing

As owner or administrator of hosted parcel fabric layers, you can configure different editing settings to control which users are allowed to edit them and the types of edits allowed.

While versioned editing is not available on ArcGIS Online, you can publish a sync-enabled parcel fabric where users can check out parts of the parcel fabric into a local geodatabase for editing and then sync edits back with the online parcel fabric.

A parcel fabric published to ArcGIS Online can only be edited in the ArcGIS Pro client.

Publish a map containing parcel fabric layers

To publish a map containing a parcel fabric to ArcGIS Online, follow these steps:

  1. Add the parcel fabric from a file or mobile geodatabase to a new map.
  2. On the Adding parcel fabric layer dialog box, choose Publication layers.

All parcel fabric layers are added to the map, and necessary fields such as ObjectID and Shape_Area are automatically made visible for publication purposes.

  3. All parcel fabric layers, including adjustment layers and attribute rule error layers, must be present in the map for publication.
  4. Preserve layer IDs in the map document.
By default, layer IDs are not preserved when authoring a map document. If the layer order in the Contents pane changes when overwriting the web layer, web layers may point to the wrong data sources.

As a best practice, manually assign layer IDs prior to publishing if you intend to overwrite the web layer or service in the future. Otherwise, service sublayer IDs can potentially change when the web layer or service is overwritten, causing disconnections in web applications that reference the service sublayer.

    1. Right-click the map document heading in the Contents pane and click Properties.
    2. On the Map Properties dialog box, choose Allow assignment of unique numeric IDs for sharing web layers under the General tab and click OK.
  5. Click the Web Layer drop-down arrow Web Layer on the Share tab and click Publish Web Layer.
  6. On the Share As Web Layer dialog box under the General tab, add a web layer name, a summary, and tags.
  7. Under Layer Type, choose Feature.
  8. Under Location, choose where to share the data under Folder.

You can share the data to the root folder or create a folder.

  9. Under Share with, choose either organization name and choose a group if applicable.

    Note:
Choosing Everyone will share your data with the public. Anyone can access and see it.

  10. On the Configuration tab, under Layers, click the Configure Web Layer Properties button Editing next to Feature to open Feature Properties.
  11. Ensure that Enable editing and allow editors to is checked and that Add, Delete, and Update (Attributes and geometry) are checked.
  12. Ensure that Enable Sync and Preserve editor tracking info are checked.

Enabling sync allows users to add parcel fabric layers to a map that can be taken offline for editing. Preserving editor tracking allows the parcel fabric to continue to populate editor tracking fields when data is edited online.

  13. Click Analyze to identify potential issues or errors.

Two types of analyzer messages appear on the Messages tab. Errors are issues that must be fixed before you can publish web layers. Warnings are issues in which performance, appearance, or data access may be affected. Double-click the error or warning for a solution or access to a help topic. Right-click the error or warning for suggestions on how to address the issue.

  14. Click Publish to publish the parcel fabric layers.

The parcel fabric is shared as a hosted feature layer to Portal for ArcGIS.

  15. The feature layer contains the parcel fabric and its associated feature classes. The parcel fabric web layers can be added to the map from the portal.

Publish a parcel fabric in a zipped file geodatabase

A parcel fabric residing in a zipped file geodatabase can be uploaded to ArcGIS Online. Its contents will be unzipped and hosted as a service.

To publish from a zipped file geodatabase, follow these steps:

  1. On your ArcGIS Online site, go to Content > My Content and click New item.
  2. Click Your device and browse to and add your zipped file geodatabase containing your parcel fabric.
  3. Under File type, click the drop-down arrow and choose File geodatabase.
  4. Under How would you like to add this file, choose Add <geodatabase name> and create a hosted feature layer and click Next.
  5. Provide a title for your service, choose a folder and provide tags and a summary.
  6. Click Save to publish the service

Once the service is published, you can click the service to display more information. Under Settings, you can choose the type of edits allowed and choose other settings such as the updates of true curves.
