Bookmark files

Bookmark files (.bkmx) are saved bookmarks that can be shared across projects. Bookmarks that have been saved to a bookmark file can be imported to the active map or scene, including bookmark files saved from ArcGIS Desktop (.dat). You can export bookmarks from the active map or scene all at once or in a selected subset.

Import bookmarks from a file

Import bookmark files into the active map or scene by doing the following:

  1. On the Map tab, in the Navigate group, click the Bookmarks drop-down menu Bookmarks and click Import Bookmarks Import Bookmarks.

Optionally, if the Bookmarks pane is open, click the Menu button Menu to import bookmarks. Or to input bookmarks into an existing map, right-click the map name and click Import Bookmarks Import Bookmarks.

You can also import bookmark files (.dat) from ArcGIS Desktop. Change the file type to filter for ArcMap, ArcGlobe, and ArcScene bookmarks. Bookmarks imported from .dat files do not include a thumbnail.

  3. Click OK.
