Work with the MGCP metadata add-in

The ArcGIS Defense Mapping extension in ArcGIS Pro includes an add-in that you can use to review Multinational Geospatial Co-production Program (MGCP) metadata in a comprehensible format. This tool is designed to read and display .xml files used with the Import MGCP Metadata and Export MGCP Metadata tools.

Install the add-in

Complete the following steps to install the add-in:

  1. Ensure that the Defense Mapping extension is licensed.
  2. Ensure that the product files are installed.
  3. From the product files’ installation location, browse to the MetadataAddIn folder.

    The default installation location is C:\Users\Public\Documents\ArcGIS Defense Mapping\Product Files\ReferenceData\MetadataAddIn.

  4. Double-click TopographicMetadata.esriAddinX to install the add-in.
  5. Click Install Add-In on the Esri ArcGIS Add-In Installation Utility dialog box.

    The add-in is installed.

  6. Click OK.

With the add-in installed, you can configure ArcGIS Pro to use the metadata style that fits your needs.

Review metadata in ArcGIS Pro

Once you have installed the metadata add-in, you can use it to review MGCP metadata by completing the following steps:

  1. Start ArcGIS Pro.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click Options.

    The Options dialog box appears.

  4. Under Application, click the Metadata tab.
  5. Under Metadata style, click the Item Description drop-down arrow and choose the style that matches your metadata.

  6. Click OK.
  7. Open a project that contains MGCP metadata in XML format.
  8. Right-click the .xml file and choose View Topographic Metadata.

The metadata appears in a comprehensive format on the Metadata tab.
