Manage long name (LNAM)

Available with ArcGIS Maritime license.

When features are created, they must be populated with an LNAM. The long name (LNAM) attribute is a required object identifier used for features in both S-57 and S-101 products. It is a multi-character concatenation of the Producing Agency (AGEN), Feature Identification Number (FIDN), and Feature Identification Subdivision (FIDS) components.

The AGEN and FIDS attributes that are used to generate an LNAM are stored in the EditingProperties table. The EditingProperties table must be populated to create and export maritime features.

Note:

The Username, Agency, and FIDS fields must be set before features can be created. An S-57 or S-100 geodatabase must also exist.

Reduce the chance of duplicate LNAM attributes in the maritime geodatabase by assigning a FIDS value to each user.

To populate these fields, complete the following steps:

  1. Start ArcGIS Pro.
  2. Open a new or existing project and ensure that it contains an S-57 or S-100 geodatabase.
  3. From the View tab, open the Catalog pane.
  4. From the Catalog pane, expand the geodatabase and add the EditingProperties table to the Contents pane.
  5. In the Contents pane, right-click the EditingProperties table.
  6. Click Open.

    The EditingProperties table appears.

    Note:

By default, the first row of the table contains a default entry.

  7. Click the Agency drop-down arrow for the row you want to edit and choose the agency name.

This field value cannot be null.

  8. Click the FIDS cell and type a numeric value or accept the default value.
    Tip:

Each username can have a unique FIDS value, but that field value cannot be null. FIDS values must be between 1 and 65534.

  9. Press Tab and press Enter to add more usernames by typing a username in the new row that appears.
  10. Click the Edit tab.
  11. Click Save.

Once these identifiers are added, you can create features in the geodatabase.
