Split multipart centerlines into singlepart features

Available with Location Referencing license.

The Split Centerlines Into Singlepart Features tool is a centerline feature class editing tool available in ArcGIS Roads and Highways. This tool breaks multipart centerlines into singlepart features for use with complex routes.

This tool is typically used to separate multipart or gapped centerlines, to split self-intersecting centerlines at their junction points, or to break apart enclosed loops.

  1. Add the centerline feature class and network feature class to a map.

You can also open a map in which the centerline and network feature classes are already present.

    Note:

TheĀ information model expects only one centerline at any given location. Make sure that the centerlines used for your edit do not overlap other centerlines in your LRS.

    Note:

Traditionally versioned networks must be edited through a direct connection to the geodatabase. Branch versioned networks, including any networks configured with a user-generated route ID, must be edited through a feature service.

  2. Zoom to the centerlines that you want to split.
  3. On the Location Referencing tab, in the Tools group, click the Split Centerline drop-down arrow and click Into Singlepart Features Split Centerline Into Singlepart Features.

The Split Centerlines Into Singlepart Features pane appears.

  6. Click Run.

The selected multipart centerlines are split and the newly separated centerlines flash in green on the map.

The Chosen Centerlines section lists each of the newly created singlepart centerline features.

Clicking a singlepart centerline feature in the Chosen Centerlines section causes it to flash on the map.

    Note:

Attributes from centerlines that are split are added to the resulting singlepart centerline features.

    Note:

If a message about acquiring locks or reconciling appears, conflict prevention is enabled.
