The following is an overview of the steps required to set up Workflow Manager (Classic).
Create an enterprise geodatabase
Run the Create Enterprise Geodatabase geoprocessing tool to create an enterprise geodatabase, then run the Create Database Connection geoprocessing tool to create a file to connect to your enterprise geodatabase.
Create a workflow database
Run the Create Workflow Database geoprocessing tool to create Workflow Manager (Classic) system tables in your enterprise database. The tool also provides options for importing the minimum, quick-start, or custom configuration files, as well as setting the user store to traditional or portal for the Workflow Manager (Classic) database. Once the tool finishes running, the current Windows user is registered as a user in Workflow Manager (Classic). This user is also added to the Administrator group and granted Administrative Access to Workflow Manager (Classic) Administrator. Administrator Access is based on a privilege.
Add a database connection to ArcGIS Workflow Manager (Classic) Administrator
Workflow Manager (Classic) Administrator requires a database connection to the Workflow Manager (Classic) repository to access job information and manage the repository.
Add Workflow Manager (Classic) users
Users are a central configuration element in Workflow Manager (Classic). Application authentication, job assignment, and tracking all rely on Workflow Manager (Classic) users. Users, in combination with groups and privileges, control the access privileges and permissions in Workflow Manager (Classic).
Users, groups, and privileges are part of the Workflow Manager (Classic) security module. Together, they grant users access to the system, log actions on jobs, and control application functionality.
Anyone who accesses Workflow Manager (Classic) must be registered with the Workflow Manager (Classic) system.
Configure Workflow Manager (Classic) for your business
After the initial setup of the Workflow Manager (Classic) repository, you can configure Workflow Manager (Classic) to meet your organization’s specific needs. A great place to start is with a workflow that represents a process you follow every day, week, or month.
