Share a web link chart

With ArcGIS Pro, you can share link charts that include content from knowledge graphs as web link charts to ArcGIS Enterprise 11.3 or later. A web link chart is an interactive display that visualizes entities and relationships from a knowledge graph. They can be opened in ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Knowledge Studio.

When you share a link chart, spatial data layers in your link chart are shared as web layers and included in the web link chart along with any existing web layers. The web layers are available when the geographic layout is applied to the web link chart.

To share a web link chart, you must have the following:

  • An account that is part of an ArcGIS organization with the privilege to create content.
  • Privileges to publish web layers, if your link chart contains feature layers or raster layers

Note:

Only link charts created from knowledge graph content can be shared to ArcGIS Enterprise; link charts created from the New Link Chart button on the Insert tab cannot be shared as web link charts.

You can continue to work with ArcGIS Pro while your sharing job is processing. You can even close ArcGIS Pro. You can monitor the status of your sharing job in the Job Status pane.

Share a web link chart using a chosen configuration

When you share a web link chart, you provide required item details, choose a configuration, choose a portal location, and set sharing properties. The configuration you choose determines the types of web layers created with the web link chart and their default properties. You can change some of these properties if you configure the web link chart.

  1. Open a link chart.
  2. On the ribbon, click the Share tab. In the Share As group, click Web Link Chart New Web Link Chart.

    The Share As Web Link Chart pane appears.

  3. Accept the default name or provide a new name for the web link chart.

    The default name is the name of your ArcGIS Pro link chart.

  4. Optionally, complete the Summary and Tags fields.

    You can enter a maximum of 128 tags.

  5. Choose a configuration for your web link chart.

    Different configurations are available. There are configurations that reference registered data and configurations that copy data to the server.

    Note:

    The Reference registered data configurations create web layers that reference registered data sources. Any subsequent updates to those data sources are reflected in their corresponding web layers. The Copy all data configurations copy the source data for all layers in the map (including layers that reference registered data sources) to the server.     The configurations are described in the following table:

    Reference registered data: Exploratory

    Data layers are shared as a dynamically rendered map image layer. This interactive link chart supports querying and is ideal for displaying regularly updated data.

    Reference registered data: Editable

    Data layers are shared as a dynamically rendered map image layer. Any feature layers in the link chart are also shared as an editable feature layer. This editable link chart is ideal for enterprise editing workflows, as the web layers honor data sources registered with the federated server.

    Reference registered data: Visualization

    Data layers are shared as a cached map image layer to support fast visualization. This link chart also supports querying.

    Copy all data: Exploratory

    Feature layers are shared as a web feature layer with editing turned off. Other data layers are shared as tile layers.

    Copy all data: Editable

    Feature layers are shared as a web feature layer with editing turned on. Other data layers are shared as tile layers. This editable link chart is ideal for collecting data from users who do not have access to your enterprise data.

    Data layers are shared as a tile layer to support fast visualization.

  6. Optionally, click the Folder drop-down arrow and choose a folder in your portal content to store the web link chart.

    By default, the web link chart and any new web layers that are created with the web link chart are stored at the root level of your portal content.

  7. Specify how the web link chart will be shared:
    • Everyone—Share your content with the public. Anyone can access and see it.
    • My Organization—Share your content with all authenticated users in your organization. This option is available when you are signed in with an organizational account.
    • Groups—Share your content with groups to which you belong and their members.

    Leave all options unchecked to set the sharing level to the owner of the item.

    Tip:

    If your link chart includes existing web layers, ensure the Share with settings for those layers are as inclusive as the Share with setting of the web link chart. Otherwise, the existing web layers may not be accessible when the web link chart is opened in client applications. The sharing properties of existing web layers can be viewed and changed in your portal.

  8. Optionally, click the Configuration tab at the top of the pane to see the web layers that will be created when you share the link chart or change their properties.

    If you enabled the Allow assignment of unique numeric IDs for sharing web layers option on the Link Chart Properties dialog box, assigned IDs appear for each sublayer. To change an ID, click the number next to the layer or table. On the Layer Properties or Standalone Table Properties dialog box, on the General tab, type a custom integer ID in the Layer ID or Table ID text box. For more information, see Assign layer IDs.

  9. Under Finish Sharing, click Analyze Identify potential performance bottlenecks and errors to review for potential problems.

    Errors and warnings are listed on the Messages tab. Right-click a message to open its help topic or take corrective action in the software. Errors Error must be resolved before you can share your GIS resource. Resolving warnings Warning is recommended but not required.

  10. After you have resolved errors, and optionally resolved warnings, click Share Share to share the web link chart.

    If the sharing settings have changed, the Update Sharing dialog box may appear where you can ensure that the layers are visible to your intended viewers.

    1. On the Update Sharing dialog box, click Update to adjust the layer sharing settings to make the layers visible in the web link chart.

      A message appears if one or more editable web feature layers cannot be shared with everyone. You must approve public data collection from the layer's item page on the portal. For more information, see Allow or prevent editing on public layers.

  11. Once the web link chart has been successfully shared, click the Manage web link chart link at the bottom of the pane to manage the web link chart in your portal.

    If the web link chart is composed of web layers cached automatically on the server, the layers may not be viewable while cache generation is in progress. Click Jobs Open Job Status Pane to view the cache status in the Job Status pane.
