Tutorial summary
In this exercise, you will use Reviewer rules stored in a map to identify features that do not meet quality requirements. You will do this by validating a feature selection and features within the map extent.
Estimated time | 25 minutes |
Software requirements | ArcGIS Pro 2.1 or later |
Data requirements | The data for this tutorial is available from the Data Reviewer for ArcGIS Pro Tutorial page. This package contains an ArcGIS Pro project package and a subset of the Local Government sample data. To download the data, follow these steps:
|
Open the project
In this exercise, you will open a project package using ArcGIS Pro and verify its contents.
- Start
ArcGIS Pro and sign in if necessary.
Caution:
If you have not already downloaded the Data Reviewer for ArcGIS Pro tutorial data, see the data requirements listed above.
- On the start page, under your recent projects, click Open another project.
Note:
If you already have a project open, click Open on the Quick Access Toolbar and go to step 4.
- On the Open page, under Open, click Computer and click Browse .
- Browse to the Data_Reviewer\Exercise_4 folder on the Open Project dialog box.
Note:
The Data_Reviewer\Exercise_4 folder is located in the directory where the Data Reviewer for ArcGIS Pro tutorial package was extracted.
- Click DataReviewerArcGISProTutorial_Exercise4.ppkx.
- Click OK.
The project opens with a topographic basemap containing city data zoomed to Naperville, Illinois.
Validate features
The Run Reviewer Rules command is used to identify features that do not meet data quality requirements implemented using Reviewer rules. The features to be validated can either be within a defined area or based on a selection set.
In this exercise, you'll assume the role of an editor. You will validate edited data against a set of Reviewer rules shared and created by your quality manager.
Validate selected features
Validation based on a selection set enables focused review on features of interest. This includes validating features as you edit them or when you need to determine if a subset of features meets quality requirements.
- On the Edit tab, in the Data Reviewer group, click the Manage Quality button to activate the Manage Quality tab.
- On the Manage Quality tab, select the features for validation using your preferred method (either interactively or using other methods such as through a query or in the attribute table).
Note:
If you have selected features, they will be validated when the Run Reviewer Rules command is executed.
- On the Manage Quality tab, in the Automated Review group, click the Run Reviewer Rules button to validate the selected features.
Note:
Run Reviewer Rules is unavailable when either of the following is true:
- The active map does not contain Reviewer rules. For more information, see Create Reviewer rules in a map.
- A default Reviewer results session has not been configured in the project, or the Reviewer Results pane is closed. For more information, see Access Reviewer error results.
- If errors are found, click the message that appears on the top right of the project to open the Reviewer Results pane.
Note:
Features detected with errors are automatically written as error results to a Reviewer session and can be viewed using the Reviewer Results pane.
- On the Manage Quality tab, in the Selection group, click the Clear button to clear your selection set for the next section.
Validate features within the map extent
Validating features using a map extent enables you to quickly assess many features without the need to create a selection set. This may be useful when you need to establish a baseline for whether data within your project's area of interest meets data quality requirements.
To validate features in the current extent, follow these steps:
- In the Catalog pane, open the map that contains features that require validation.
- On the Edit tab, in the Data Reviewer group, click the Manage Quality command to activate the Manage Quality tab.
- Pan or zoom the map to the area that contains features for validation using your preferred map navigation method (either interactively or using a bookmark, such as the Naperville Validation bookmark in the project package).
Note:
By default, only features that are visible in the map will be validated.
- On the Manage Quality tab, in the Automated Review group, click the Run Reviewer Rules button to validate the features in the current extent.
Features detected as errors are automatically written as results to a Reviewer session and can be viewed using the Reviewer Results pane.
Note:
Error results are written to either the Reviewer session displayed in the active Reviewer Results pane or to the project's default session.
- On the Quick Access Toolbar, optionally click the Save button to save the project.
In this exercise, you used the Run Reviewer Rules command to identify features that did not meet data quality requirements. Validation was run on both a selection set and visible features in the current map extent.
After running Reviewer rules to validate data created, edited, or referenced in your ArcGIS Pro map, features that fail validation were written to a geodatabase to facilitate review and corrective workflows. Move on to the next exercise to validate data using Reviewer batch jobs.
