Validate Parcel Fabric (Parcel)

Summary

Validates a parcel fabric against a predefined set of geodatabase topology rules, and any additional topology rules you have added for your organization.

The parcel fabric uses geodatabase topology rules to define parcels and model their behavior. Geodatabase topology rules define the spatial relationships between parcel features. You can define additional geodatabase topology rules to manage and enforce data quality standards in your organization.

Usage

  • Use this tool to validate an entire parcel fabric dataset or large number of parcels.

  • The parcel fabric topology must be enabled.

  • Dirty areas in the validated extent will be removed. Dirty areas are created when data is added to or modified in the parcel fabric.

  • After validation, rule errors can be viewed by opening the Error Inspector pane. Rule errors are violations of topology rules and are displayed in the Point Errors, Line Errors, and Polygon Errors sublayers under the parcel fabric layer.

Parameters

LabelExplanationData Type
Input Parcel Fabric

The parcel fabric to be validated. The parcel fabric can be from a file geodatabase or a feature service.

Parcel Layer
Extent
(Optional)

The extent of the dataset to be processed. Only features that fall within the specified extent will be processed.

  • Default—The extent will be based on the maximum extent of all participating inputs. This is the default.
  • Union of Inputs—The extent will be based on the maximum extent of all inputs.
  • Intersection of Inputs—The extent will be based on the minimum area common to all inputs.
  • Current Display Extent—The extent is equal to the visible display. The option is not available when there is no active map.
  • As Specified Below—The extent will be based on the minimum and maximum extent values specified.
  • Browse—The extent will be based on an existing dataset.

in_parcel_fabric

The parcel fabric to be validated. The parcel fabric can be from a file geodatabase or a feature service.

Parcel Layer
extent
(Optional)

The extent of the dataset to be processed. Only features that fall within the specified extent will be processed.

  • MAXOF—The maximum extent of all inputs will be used.
  • MINOF—The minimum area common to all inputs will be used.
  • DISPLAY—The extent is equal to the visible display.
  • Layer name—The extent of the specified layer will be used.
  • Extent object—The extent of the specified object will be used.
  • Space delimited string of coordinates—The extent of the specified string will be used. Coordinates are expressed in the order of x-min, y-min, x-max, y-max.

Code sample

ValidateParcelFabric example (Python window)

The following Python window script demonstrates how to use the BuildParcelFabric tool in immediate mode. The script builds parcels using the combined extent of all input data (MAXOF).

import arcpy
arcpy.parcel.ValidateParcelFabric("C:/Data/Database.gdb/Parcels/CountyFabric",
                                  "MAXOF")
