Share a web imagery layer

From ArcGIS Pro, you can author and share web imagery layers to ArcGIS Enterprise. These web layers expose the selected raster dataset and can be configured to draw dynamically from data or from new or existing cached tiles. The default configuration allows users to view the dataset and its associated metadata. You must be a member of a portal role that has the privilege to publish server-based layers to share a web imagery layer, and you must be signed in to the active portal as that member.

Tip:

Web imagery layers are shared from the Catalog pane, not the Contents pane nor the Share tab on the main ribbon.

Share a web imagery layer using the default configuration

This workflow explains how to share a web imagery layer to the active ArcGIS Enterprise portal using default settings. To change the default configuration, see Configure a web imagery layer.

  1. To share a web imagery layer, right-click a raster dataset in the Catalog pane and click Share as Web Layer Share as web layer.

The Share As Web Layer pane appears.

  2. Provide a name for the web layer.
  3. Complete the Summary and Tags fields.

You can enter a maximum of 128 tags.

  4. Choose Reference registered data or Copy all data.

Choosing Copy all data will create a copy of the dataset on ArcGIS Image Server.

When using Share As Web Layer to share web imagery layers to ArcGIS Enterprise, the default Layer Type option is Imagery.
  5. Under Location, use the Folder menu to choose a folder in your portal content in which to store the web layer. Optionally, create a folder.

By default, the web layer is stored at the root level of your portal content.

    Tip:

Click the Browse button Browse to browse to a folder in your portal content. You can also type a folder name in the text box.

  6. Use the Server and Folder drop-down menus to specify the federated server where the service will be published and the folder where it will be stored. Optionally, create a folder.

By default, the service is stored in the root folder of the server.

    Note:

The Server and Folder options appear only if you are sharing to ArcGIS Enterprise using the Reference registered data option. In this case, you can also click the Data Stores button Data Stores to open the Manage Registered Data Stores pane. Use this pane to register geodatabases and folders with federated servers.

  7. Under Share with, specify how the web layer will be shared:
    • Everyone—Share your content with the public. Anyone can access and see it.
    • My Organization—Share your content with all authenticated users in the organization.
    • Groups—Share your content with groups to which you belong and their members.

Leave all options unchecked to set the sharing level to the owner of the item.

  8. Optionally, click the Content tab to see the folder structure and sublayers of the web layer.
  9. Under Finish Sharing, click Analyze Analyze to review for problems.

Errors and warnings are listed on the Messages tab. Right-click a message to open its help topic or take corrective action in the software. Errors Error must be resolved before you can share your GIS resource. Resolving warnings Warning is recommended but not required.

  10. After you resolve errors, and optionally resolve warnings, click Publish Publish to share the web layer.
  11. When the web layer is successfully published, click the Manage the web layer link at the bottom of the pane to access the web layer in your portal.

If the web layer will be drawn from cache built automatically on the server, the web layer may not be viewable while cache generation is in progress. Click Jobs Check Sharing Job Status to view the cache status in the Job Status pane.

Note:

You cannot share web imagery layers to Portal for ArcGIS 10.3.1 or earlier.

Share data in the cloud

To access and share your data in the cloud, first you must create a connection to your cloud stores, access the data using the cloud store connection file (.acs), and follow the steps to share a web imagery layer.

To share your data in the cloud, you can use one of the following options:

  • Share by referencing the data.
  • Share by copying all data, which downloads a copy of the data from the cloud, packages it, and uploads it to the federated server running ArcGIS Server.

Note:

  • To share by reference, you must register either the .acs file location or the cloud path as a data store or data store item before sharing the data.
  • To share a mosaic dataset with data in the cloud, you must register the cloud path as a data store or data store item before sharing the data.
