ArcGIS IPS Setup
ArcGIS IPS Setup is a mobile app (Android and iOS) that collects reference radio signals in the space where IPS is being deployed.
BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy)
BLE is a variation of the Bluetooth wireless standard designed for low power consumption. Commonly used as a basis for IPS use cases.
Enable Indoor Positioning
Enable Indoor Positioning is a tool that creates the ArcGIS IPS Information Model in a file or Enterprise geodatabase.
Generate Indoor Positioning File
Generate Indoor Positioning File is a tool that processes the survey recordings created with the ArcGIS IPS Setup app. The tool generates an indoor positioning file that provides indoor localization in IPS-enabled apps.
Indoor positioning file
The indoor positioning file is an output of the Generate Indoor Positioning File tool and represents a radio fingerprint map that's stored as a database file.
IPS (indoor positioning system)
IPS is a technology based on a network of devices (usually BLE or Wi-Fi) used to locate people or objects indoors, where other localization sources such as GPS lack precision or fail entirely.
Path snapping
Path snapping uses parts of the ArcGIS Indoors navigation network to optimize real-time positioning in the ArcGIS IPS Setup app and other IPS-enabled apps.
Survey
A survey is the process of collecting reference radio data (BLE or Wi-Fi) at an indoor site for the purpose of setting up IPS. This involves the creation of multiple survey recordings using the ArcGIS IPS Setup app and uploading the recordings to an editable feature service on your ArcGIS organization or Enterprise deployment. A survey can be performed by a site owner, managers, GIS technicians, Esri implementation consultants, or a combination of all.
Survey point (ground truth point)
A survey point, also known as a ground truth point, is a known location in an indoor space that has been confirmed in the ArcGIS IPS Setup app during the survey process.
Survey recording
A set of reference data created using the ArcGIS IPS Setup app, which includes a record of trajectories walked, ground truth points, and locations with their corresponding geocoordinates, time, and signal strength, as well as the device’s internal sensor data collected by walking through (a portion of) a site. Usually, multiple recordings must be created to enable IPS throughout an entire site.
Transmitter
A BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) or Wi-Fi access point in a signal source network that is usually identified by its UUID or SSID in an IPS positioning file.
