Segment construction tools

In the Create Features pane, clicking a feature construction tool that creates linear and curvilinear geometry shows the construction toolbar with segment construction tools, intersections tools, and optional settings for working with unfinished geometry.

Segment tools

Alternating between segment construction tools creates feature geometry connected with vertices until you finish the feature or cancel the command in progress.

Segment construction tools

ToolDescription

Line Line

Create straight line segments between vertices by clicking or typing the vertex locations.

Right Angle Line Right Angle Segment

Create straight line segments at 90-degree angles between vertices by clicking or typing the vertex locations.

Arc Segment Arc Segment

Create circular arc segments by clicking or typing the location for a start point, a point through which the arc passes that defines the radius, and an endpoint. To specify a numeric radius value, press R.

Endpoint Arc Segment Arc Segment

Create circular arc segments by clicking or typing the location for a start point, an endpoint, and a point through which the arc passes that defines the radius.

Tangent Curve Segment Tangent Arc

Create circular arc segments that are tangent to the previous segment using two points.

Bezier Curve Segment Bezier Curve

Create nonlinear Bézier curved segments using control points and handles to shape the angle and height of the curve.

Trace Trace

Create segments that follow another feature by tracing the boundary of the feature using the pointer that follow another feature boundary.

Streaming Streaming

Create free-form segments by streaming vertices with the pointer. Press O to check the Smooth setting and convert the segments to Bézier curves when you finish the feature.

Settings for unfinished geometry

The construction toolbar includes the following optional settings for modifying unfinished geometry.

Optional settingDescription

Vertex Editing Edit Vertex

Modify sketch geometry by dragging a vertex or segment. Right-click to add or delete vertices or change segment geometry.

Stretch Proportionately Stretch Proportionately

When dragging a vertex, preserve the general shape of the unfinished by stretching all segments proportionately.
