Share IPS-aware maps

Available for an ArcGIS organization licensed with the ArcGIS IPS extension.

You can share an IPS-aware map as a web map to your ArcGIS organization and use it with applications that support ArcGIS IPS or with custom applications that use the ArcGIS Maps SDKs for native apps.

Note:

Certain ArcGIS applications may require additional configuration for ArcGIS IPS. Refer to your application's documentation for more information.

To share an IPS-aware map, complete the following steps:

  1. Start ArcGIS Pro.
  2. Open an ArcGIS IPS map or prepare a new map in ArcGIS Pro.
  3. Ensure that the portal where you want to share the map is the active portal in ArcGIS Pro and that it contains an Indoor Positioning Data Service.
  4. In the Contents pane, right-click the map and click Properties.

The Map Properties dialog box appears.

  5. Click the Indoor Positioning tab and ensure that the Indoor Positioning Data Service property matches the name of the Indoor Positioning Data Service in your active portal.

If the chosen service is hosted on a different portal than the active portal, an error is displayed. Click Browse Browse and choose a service on the active portal or change the active portal connection to the portal that contains the chosen service.

  6. On the ribbon, click the Share tab.
  7. In the Share As group, click Web Map New Web Map.

The Share As Web Map pane appears.

  8. Accept the default name or provide a new name for the web map.

The default name is the name of your ArcGIS Pro map.

  9. Optionally, provide a description for the map in the Summary text box.
  10. In the Tags text box, type IPS and provide additional tags separated by commas, if required.

The web map must include the IPS tag to display apps that support ArcGIS IPS.

  11. Choose a configuration for the web map.

Depending on your active portal, different configuration options are available. If you share to an ArcGIS Enterprise portal, there are configurations that reference registered data and configurations that copy data to the server. If you share to ArcGIS Online, there are only configurations that copy data to the server.

The configurations for IPS-aware maps are described in the following table:

    Reference registered data: Exploratory

Map layers are shared as a dynamically rendered map image layer. This interactive map supports querying and is ideal for displaying regularly updated data.

This configuration is not available when sharing to ArcGIS Online.

    Reference registered data: Editable

Map layers are shared as a dynamically rendered map image layer. Any feature layers in the map are also shared as an editable feature layer. This editable map is ideal for enterprise editing workflows, as the web layers honor data sources registered with the federated server.

This configuration is not available when sharing to ArcGIS Online.

    Copy all data: Exploratory

Feature layers are shared as a web feature layer with editing turned off. Other map layers are shared as tile layers.

    Copy all data: Editable

Feature layers are shared as web feature layers with editing turned on. Other map layers are shared as tile layers. This editable map is ideal for collecting data from users who do not have access to your enterprise data.

    Note:

If you share a web map with one of the Reference registered data configuration options, ensure that the image layer is the last layer in your web map. You can change its order by moving it to the bottom of the Layers pane in Map Viewer. This ensures that feature layers are drawn in the correct order for display in the IPS-enabled apps.

  12. Optionally, check the Use symbol types compatible with all clients check box to convert ArcGIS Pro symbols to web symbols that can be rendered by all applications, including most older clients.
  13. Optionally, click the Folder drop-down arrow and choose a folder in your portal content to store the web map.

By default, the web map and any new web layers that are created with the web map are stored at the root level of your portal content.

  14. Specify how the web map will be shared:
    • Everyone—Share your content with the public. Anyone can access and see it.
    • My Organization—Share your content with all authenticated users in your organization. This option is available when you are signed in with an organizational account.
    • Groups—Share your content with groups to which you belong and their members.

Leave all options unchecked to set the sharing level to the owner of the item.

  15. Under Finish Sharing, click Analyze Identify potential performance bottlenecks and errors to review for potential problems.

Errors and warnings are listed on the Messages tab. Right-click a message to open its help topic or take corrective action in the software. Errors Error must be resolved before you can share your GIS resource. Resolving warnings Warning is recommended but not required.
