Work with ArcGIS Pro notifications

As you work on a project, you may receive notifications about the ArcGIS Pro application, items you are using in your project, or software operations that are taking place. There are two types of notifications. One type is indicated by a change on the Notifications button Notifications next to the sign-in menu. These notifications are stored in the Notifications pane. The other type appear as temporary messages at the top of the ArcGIS Pro window. These are known as toast notifications.

Work with notifications in the Notifications pane

A blue dot on the Notifications button Notifications indicates that a notification is available in the Notifications pane. Notifications often alert you to changes that may require action on your part—for example, to update software or accept a newer version of a web map.

Notifications include messages such as the following:

  • An update is available for ArcGIS Pro.
  • Your license for ArcGIS Pro will expire soon.
  • You are not signed in to your licensing portal.
  • A map or scene has been imported to your project.
  • A new version of your project or a web map is available from the active portal.

Act on a notification

Follow these steps to act on a notification:

  1. Click Notifications Notifications at the top of the application window. Alternatively, press Alt+W.

    The Notifications pane appears.

  2. Hover over a notification.

An action, such as View Results or Update Map, appears on the notification. If additional actions are available, a Show More button Show More appears.

  3. Click the action to carry it out. Alternatively, click Show More Show More and select a different action from the drop-down list that appears.

Dismiss a notification

You can dismiss a notification or all notifications if you don't want to take action immediately. Dismissed notifications reappear the next time you perform the action that caused the notification. For example, if the notification concerns a software update, the notification reappears when you start ArcGIS Pro. Optionally, you can disable notifications temporarily.

  1. Click Notifications Notifications to open the Notifications pane.
  2. Hover over a notification.
  3. Click Close Close to close the notification.
  4. Click Menu Menu at the top of the Notifications pane to display additional options for managing notifications.
    • Click Dismiss All to close all notifications.
    • Under Disable notifications, click 1 hour, 2 hours, or Current session to disable notifications for the specified period. When the period is over, notifications will appear again when they occur.
    • Click Allow notifications to enable notifications before the disable time period has expired.

View toast notifications

Toast notifications are messages that appear on your screen to provide information about system status, update availability, or changes within the application. They may or may not indicate a need for action on your part.

Toast notifications appear at the top of the ArcGIS Pro window and remain on screen for a few seconds. You can hover over a toast notification to prevent it from disappearing.

Toast notifications about licensing status
In the first image, a toast notification appears if you sign out of the portal that validates your software license. In the second image, another toast notification confirms that the licensing connection is reestablished.

Occasionally, multiple toast notifications may appear on screen at the same time.

Note:

Some notifications are presented both in the Notifications pane and as toast notifications. For example, when a new version of ArcGIS Pro is available, a toast notification appears when you start the application and a blue dot is added to the Notifications button.
