ArcGIS Topographic Mapping provides tools to automate national, civilian, and defense map production and cartographic processes. These tools and processes allow you to create and manage the cartographic production of industry-grade printed maps.

Color management

You can perform the following color management processes:

• Replace colors in a map
• Replace colors in a layout
• Replace colors in a style

Cartographic processes

You can perform the following cartographic processes:

• Create polygon bands
• Perform cartographic refinement
• Create and modify features
• Create and update map layouts

Layout templates

The Topographic Mapping extension product data files include layouts that meet industry specifications for supported map products.

Rule files

Rule files contain predefined rules in XML format that can be used for cartographic production as follows:

• Grid templates that meet industry specifications for supported map products are provided in the product files.
• Building offsets
• Bridge offsets
• Masking
