Available with an ArcGIS Topographic Mapping license.
ArcGIS Topographic Mapping provides generalization models to automate the creation of maps, charts, and data products at any scale based on the unique characteristics of different data themes. The models automate multiscale mapping efforts to produce any output scale of data or cartographic product from a single, best-scale database.
Rule files
The ArcGIS Topographic Mapping extension includes a product data file installer. Once the product files are installed, the default location of the rule files is C:\Users\Public\Documents\ArcGIS Topographic Mapping\Product Files\Generalization\GeneralizationRules. This standard set of generalization rules help automate the creation of smaller scale data from a set of base data.
Caution:
Modifying these files may result in errors or unexpected behavior.
Geoprocessing tools
In the Topographic Production toolbox that is included with the Topographic Mapping extension, the Data Management toolset contains a Generalization toolset, which includes the following tools:
Video introduction to generalization
This video introduces key concepts and terms used in generalization. The building blocks provided in ArcGIS Pro are discussed, as well as some of the unique generalization capabilities that are included with the Topographic Mapping extension.
Legacy:
Starting at ArcGIS Pro 3.6, ArcGIS Defense Mapping and ArcGIS Production Mapping are ArcGIS Topographic Mapping.
