After ArcGIS Pro is installed on a machine, it is enabled for use when it has a valid license. The license is associated with a member's user type in an ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise organization. The following user types have an ArcGIS Pro license:
- Creator
- Professional
- Professional Plus
Each user type has a different license level. The Professional Plus user type also includes several extension products.

License types
Named User licenses are the default license type. With a Named User license, an ArcGIS organization member signs in to ArcGIS Pro with their organization credentials.
Optionally, Named User licenses can be converted to Single Use licenses or Concurrent Use licenses. However, this is only possible for ArcGIS Pro licenses that are included with ArcGIS Desktop deployments.
A Single Use license authorizes one person to use ArcGIS Pro. That person can use the software on one computer at a time, while having it installed on a maximum of two computers.
A Concurrent Use license authorizes the use of ArcGIS Pro independently of an ArcGIS organization from a pool of licenses managed by ArcGIS License Manager.
ArcGIS Pro license levels
An ArcGIS Pro license has one of three license levels:
- Basic—This is provided with the Creator user type.
- Standard—This is provided with the Professional user type.
- Advanced—This is provided with the Professional Plus user type.
Each license level enables additional functionality in ArcGIS Pro.
Note:
An ArcGIS Desktop deployment includes a Creator user type and an add-on ArcGIS Pro license. The Creator user type is automatically assigned an ArcGIS Pro Basic license. The level of the add-on license matches the ArcGIS Desktop license level. For example, in an ArcGIS Desktop Advanced deployment, the add-on license is ArcGIS Pro Advanced. An ArcGIS organization administrator can assign the add-on license to the Creator to upgrade their license level.
License duration
Named User licenses in ArcGIS Online are subscription-based. They are renewed annually along with your ArcGIS Online organization. It is necessary to stay current with an Esri Maintenance Program to receive product updates and technical support, and to keep your ArcGIS Online organization active.
Named User licenses in ArcGIS Enterprise can be either subscription based or perpetual. A perpetual license entitles you to use the application indefinitely.
Single Use and Concurrent Use licenses can also be either subscription based or perpetual.
Extension product licenses
Extension products integrate seamlessly with the core ArcGIS Pro application to provide specialized functionality. Extensions are typically purchased and licensed separately from the core application; however, several extensions are included with the Professional Plus user type. Extensions don't have license levels—they work with any ArcGIS Pro license. An extension must have the same license type (for example, Named User) as the core application.
Note:
ArcGIS Desktop extension products include licenses for both the ArcGIS Desktop version and the ArcGIS Pro version of the extension (if an ArcGIS Pro version exists). However, the ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Pro versions are separate products and the licenses are authorized separately.
