What's new

Major and minor releases also include new functionality, which is described in What's new in ArcGIS Pro.

Removal and deprecation notices

Notices are released when it is determined that functionality will be removed from a future version of ArcGIS Pro. The notices describe what will be removed, so you can evaluate whether your workflows will be affected; notices also detail alternative functionality, so you can find other ways to reach the same or similar results from your workflows; and they provide when the removal will occur, if known, so you can schedule updates. You can browse ArcGIS Pro deprecation notices by release on the Esri Technical Support website.

Functionality removed at ArcGIS Pro 3.3

The following subsection notes functionality that was removed at ArcGIS Pro 3.3.

Shapefile-based network datasets

Network datasets in shapefiles are no longer supported. Before you update ArcGIS Pro, build your network datasets in a file geodatabase or enterprise geodatabase.

Functionality that will be removed in future releases

The following subsections note functionality that is scheduled to be removed in a release after ArcGIS Pro 3.3.

Support for Microsoft SQL Server 2017

ArcGIS Pro 3.3 and ArcGIS Enterprise 11.3 are the last releases to support Microsoft SQL Server 2017. If you use ArcGIS to access data in this database management system version, you'll need to upgrade the database to use it with future versions of ArcGIS.

Support for ArcGIS Workflow Manager (Classic)

Workflow Manager (Classic) retires in ArcGIS Pro 3.4 and the Workflow Manager (Classic) toolbox will be deprecated. Current users are encouraged to begin creating projects in the services-driven version of Workflow Manager.

Database versions no longer supported

ArcGIS no longer supports Microsoft SQL Server 2016 or PostgreSQL 12.x. If you access data in SQL Server 2016 or PostgreSQL 12.x, upgrade the database before you update ArcGIS Pro and other ArcGIS clients.

If you connect to SQL Server, you may also need to update the ODBC driver on each client machine. See ArcGIS requirements for Microsoft SQL Server for information about supported drivers.

Python

The version of Python at ArcGIS Pro 3.3 has been upgraded from 3.9.18 to 3.11.8. The versions of many Python packages are also updated. An update to the Python version or to any Python package brings new features and bug fixes. An update can cause breaking changes if features are deprecated or removed. Behaviors may also be modified. For example, the NumPy package removed numpy.int at version 1.24 (to resolve this, use int instead).

Release notes for Python and Python packages typically include details about these changes. For a list of updates to Python, see What's New in Python 3.10 and What's New in Python 3.11 at python.org.

Companion ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise versions

ArcGIS is a system that can be extended with multiple products to fit many needs. Two products that are frequently used together are ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise. Major and minor versions of these two products are developed together and released within months of each other so that shared functionality can be introduced and improved.

Although earlier and later versions of ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise work together for most functionality, pairing companion versions is recommended. When that isn't possible, staying within a range of two companion versions is recommended. The table below lists the companion versions.

ArcGIS Pro versionArcGIS Enterprise version

ArcGIS Pro 3.3

ArcGIS Enterprise 11.3

ArcGIS Pro 3.2

ArcGIS Enterprise 11.2

ArcGIS Pro 3.1

ArcGIS Enterprise 11.1

ArcGIS Pro 3.0

ArcGIS Enterprise 11.0

ArcGIS Pro 2.9

ArcGIS Enterprise 10.9.1

When specific minimum software version combinations are required for particular functionality, that will be stated in the documentation for that functionality.
