Report templates and styling

Templates and styling provide the opportunity to predetermine element placement and appearance in a report. Both options are only available during new report creation. All elements and properties are customizable on your own using format properties. Re-create the report to use a different template or styling.

Templates

Templates dictate the location of elements within a report. For example, where in the report header a title is located or how summary statistics are arranged in a group footer. Use a template to make a report quickly. The choices of templates will vary depending on whether your report is set up with field groupings.

There are five template choices:

  • Attribute List—Generates a list of rows, with columns for the chosen attributes. This is the default if no grouping is defined.
  • Basic Summary—Generates a list of the specified summary statistics. No individual rows are listed.
  • Page per feature—Generates a separate page for each feature, listing the chosen attributes.
  • Attribute List with Grouping—Generates a list of rows, with columns for the chosen attributes, grouped by a unique field. This is the default if grouping is defined.
  • Basic Summary with Grouping—Generates a list of the specified summary statistics, grouped by a unique field. No individual rows are listed.

If grouping is established when organizing the data in the Create New Report pane, only those templates that use grouping are listed in the Template drop-down menu. If no grouping is used, the templates that don't include grouping are listed.

Styling

The styling of a report designates the appearance properties of elements. Examples of text styling include color, font, justification, and spacing. In a report, the styling chosen impacts all subsections and elements. Subsection styling includes background color.

There are four styling choices:

  • No Styling—No styling will be applied. Colors and symbols are defined by the chosen template.
  • Black and White—For use on black and white printers. This is the default.
  • Cool Tones—Blue lines and backgrounds with gray fonts.
  • Warm Tones—Orange lines and backgrounds with gray fonts.

The chosen styling will be apparent in the report view upon report creation. The only exception is the Details Alternate Row Color, which is not visible until the report has been shared as a PDF document.

Tip:

Report styling is derived from items in the Reports system style, which you can add to a project.
