COGO and Ground to Grid tools for editing

Coordinate Geometry (COGO) and ground to grid correction tools for editing are used to map the location of features and their boundaries measured on the ground and recorded in physical or electronic land record documents.

The editing tools listed in the following tables include additional functionality for editing COGO-enabled features and creating geometry based on the current ground to grid correction settings. You can use them with standard geodatabase features and features contained in parcel fabrics.

Feature construction tools

The tools in the following table are available when you are actively drawing a feature using a feature construction tool in the Create Features pane.

Circular Arc .	Create two-point tangent or non-tangent circular arc segments based on specified parameters.
Spiral Curve	Create clothoid spiral curves based on specified parameters.
Intersection tools	Solve basic analytic geometry problems to place a point feature or a vertex, such as finding the intersection of two radial distances or of two directions.
Direction	Constrain the current segment to the specified direction value.
Distance	Constrain the current segment to the specified distance.
Direction/Distance	Create a vertex at the specified horizontal direction and distance measured from the last vertex.
On-screen Constraints	Specify direction and distance using on-screen text box controls.

Feature modification tools

The tools in the following table are available in the Modify Features pane.

Tool	Description	Ground to grid distance factor	Ground to grid direction offset
Traverse	Create a series of line features or a single polygon feature by typing values. Note: This tool supports single-handed data entry using the numeric keypad.
Update COGO	Update the direction and distance attributes of a COGO-enabled line feature to match the selected feature geometry. Note: If ground to grid is turned on, the calculated values are rotated and scaled by the current correction settings.
Cul-de-sac	Create cul-de-sac geometry that is aligned with a selected line feature representing the centerline of a road.
Split lines into COGO lines	Create two-point COGO lines and arcs from selected line features. The feature is split at each vertex.
Extend or Trim	Extend or trim a line feature to an existing feature boundary. Note: Check the Recalculate COGO attributes check box in the tool pane to recalculate existing COGO attributes values.
Fillet	Create a tangent circular arc between two segments by reshaping the first segment and trimming the second segment.
Line Intersection	Split straight and curved line features at intersections or inferred intersections. You can extend a line to an inferred intersection or create a segment. Note: Check the Recalculate COGO attributes check box in the tool pane to recalculate existing COGO attributes values.
Split	Split editable and visible features into two or more features. You can draw a line to create the split or select input cutting features and split only selected target features.
Divide	Divide a single-part polyline feature into multiple features that have equal or varying distances or a percentage of the total length.	Note: The distance factor is applied only if the Length or Arclength fields do not contain values and the tool is not set to distribute the remaining length equally or proportionally.
Copy Parallel	Copy line features parallel or concentric to existing line features at a specified offset distance.
Offset	Create features at specified distances along a line at a specified perpendicular offset from the line.
Merge	Combine two or more features on the same layer that share coincident vertices into one feature. You can replace the existing feature, or keep it and create a feature. Note: Existing COGO attribute values are automatically recalculated.
Planarize	Split overlapping features on the same layer into individual segments at each intersection and delete coincident line segments. Note: Existing COGO attribute values are automatically recalculated. Null COGO attribute values remain as null values on the split lines.
