The Explore STAC pane allows you to display and select the collections and items to add to ArcGIS Pro.
Dynamic and static catalogs
There are two types of catalogs: dynamic and static. ArcGIS Pro supports a wide range of these catalogs.
See The STAC Specification on the STAC website to learn more about dynamic and static catalogs.
Explore dynamic catalogs
The Explore STAC pane displays the dynamic catalogs on two tabs: the Parameters tab, which includes a set of search filters, and the Results tab, which displays the results based on the search parameters provided. You can select an item from the Results tab and add it to a map, scene, or mosaic dataset for further analysis and processing.
To open the Explore STAC pane, in the Catalog pane, right-click the STAC connection listed under STACs, and click Explore STAC. By default, the Explore STAC pane opens on the Parameters tab.
Parameters tab
On the Parameters tab, you can view, search, and select the STAC collections by applying various filters to display the datasets on the Results tab.
You can filter the STAC search using the following options:
- Search Collections—Display all the available STAC collections in the connection, and choose one or multiple collections.
- Date and Time—Select the Start Date and End Date values to display the STAC collections created within the time frame. Select Topographic to filter time-enabled topographic layers that fall within the specific time period.
- Extent—Filter the items in the current map view.
- ID(s)—Filter the items by ID.
- Attributes—Specify Field and Type values for an attribute. Alternatively, you can build a custom query based on multiple attributes using the Where clause in the definition query builder.
- Items per page—Set the number of items to display per page.
Click the View Results button or the Results tab to view the results.
Results tab
On the Results tab, you can view and select the STAC items from the collections based on the provided search parameters, and add them to a map, scene, and mosaic dataset.
The list is displayed in the form of cards that contain metadata about the items displayed. The cards are sorted based on the field that is displayed in bold at the top of the card. You can use the Sort By button to choose a different sorting field.
Use the Sort Order button to specify ascending or descending order. If you change the map view extent after the pane is opened, make a selection, or update the selection, click the Refresh button to refresh the results based on the new map view extent or selection. Use the Configure Results button to edit the metadata shown on the cards. You can display four fields on each card. You can also show thumbnails of the datasets.
Use the buttons that appear on each card, or the check box and Add button, to work with a single item or a list of items. These buttons and their functions are described in the following table:
Button | Description |
---|---|
Properties button | View the properties of the selected STAC items on the Results tab. It lists the metadata and asset information of the STAC item as the STAC Item Metadata and STAC Item Assets properties on the Raster Properties dialog box. |
Add button | Add the selected STAC items to the current map, a new map, a new scene, or a mosaic dataset. |
Explore static catalogs
Though the Explore STAC pane treats both the dynamic and static catalogs the same, there is a difference in the way the catalogs and items are listed for static catalogs.
The Explore STAC pane displays the static catalogs on two tabs: the Catalogs tab, which lists the catalogs, and the Items tab, which displays the items based on the catalog selected. You can select an item from the Items tab and add it to a map, scene, or mosaic dataset for further analysis and processing.
Catalogs tab
The Catalogs tab displays the static catalogs list with a description.
Click the catalog until it displays the items based on the directory structure. This opens the items on the Items tab.
Items tab
Once the catalog is chosen, the associated items appear on the Items tab.
The items are displayed on Items tab similar to the Results tab of dynamic catalogs. The same options to view properties, add, sort, refresh, and configure results are available.
Once the STAC item is added to the map, it is presented, managed, and processed consistently with other layers and content.
