Update positioning data

Available for an ArcGIS organization licensed with the ArcGIS IPS extension.

Update an Indoor Positioning Dataset

Updating an existing Indoor Positioning Dataset with new data ensures that it remains current and can improve indoor positioning accuracy. Updates to positioning datasets are only possible using the survey-based deployment method. To update an indoor positioning dataset, complete the following steps:

  1. Start ArcGIS Pro.
  2. On the ribbon, click the Analysis tab and click Tools Tools.

    The Geoprocessing pane appears.

  3. In the Geoprocessing pane, click the Toolboxes tab.
  4. Expand Indoor Positioning Tools and click Generate Indoor Positioning Dataset.

The Generate Indoor Positioning Dataset tool opens in the Geoprocessing pane.

  5. Click the Target IPS Positioning Datasets drop-down arrow, or click Browse Browse, and choose the IPS Positioning Datasets feature class that you want to use to store the positioning data.
  6. Select the Update Existing Dataset check box.
  7. Click the Existing Dataset drop-down arrow and select the existing dataset you want to update.

The Output Dataset Name field is auto-populated based on the selected dataset.

  8. The Output Dataset Name field appears with a suffix to differentiate it from the original dataset. Either keep the suggested name or provide a new name.
  9. Click the Generation Method drop-down arrow and select Survey-based.
  10. Click the Level Features drop-down arrow, or click Browse Browse, and choose the Levels feature class.

The chosen feature class should contain only level features where you want to update the dataset.

  11. Click the IPS Recordings Features drop-down arrow, or click Browse Browse, and choose the IPS Recordings feature class that contains features at the locations where you want to update the dataset.
  12. Click Run.

The tool generates an updated version of the specified indoor positioning dataset by including new indoor positioning data at the specific locations where the survey recordings were provided. This data is added at the locations where there is an overlap with the specified dataset.

Once an updated Indoor Positioning Dataset is generated, you can use it to update its corresponding Indoor Positioning Data Service, which powers one or more of your IPS-aware maps.

Update an Indoor Positioning Data Service

To update an Indoor Positioning Data Service, complete the following steps:

  1. Start ArcGIS Pro.
  2. On the ribbon, click the Analysis tab and click Tools Tools.

    The Geoprocessing pane appears.

  3. In the Geoprocessing pane, click the Toolboxes tab.
  4. Expand Indoor Positioning Tools and click Share Indoor Positioning Data Service.

The Share Indoor Positioning Data Service tool opens in the Geoprocessing pane.

  5. Click the IPS Positioning Datasets Browse button Browse, and choose the feature class that contains the updated dataset.

The IPS Dataset Name drop-down list is populated with the names of the datasets available in the chosen feature class.

  6. Select the updated dataset.
  7. Check the Update an Existing Indoor Positioning Data Service check box.

The Title drop-down list is populated with the names of the Indoor Positioning Data Services that are available to your account.

  8. Select the Indoor Positioning Data Service you want to update.
  9. Optionally, provide values for the Summary and Tags parameters.
  10. Click Run.

Once the tool has finished running, the selected Indoor Positioning Data Service is updated. All existing IPS-aware web maps that reference the service begin providing indoor positioning based on the updated data as soon as they are reopened in an app.
