Topology options allow you customize the style and appearance of the topology graph and choose how the cluster tolerance is calculated. Topology options are available in the Editor Settings dialog box.
To learn more about map topology, see Map topology.
Change the display style
The display style determines how elements of the topology graph are displayed and highlighted when topological editing is turned on and a topological editing tool is active.
To change the display style, complete the following steps:
- On the Edit ribbon tab, click Settings in the Manage Edits group.
The Editor Settings dialog box appears.
- Click the Topology side tab and expand Display.
- In the Style section, choose one of the following display styles:
All Elements
Always highlight topology nodes and topology edges.
Select Elements
Always display topology nodes and only highlight an edge when hovering near one.
- To restore all default topology settings, click Reset Page.
- Click OK.
Change the color and scale of the topology graph
The appearance settings allow you to customize the color and scaling of the topology graph.
To change appearance settings, complete the following steps:
- On the Edit ribbon tab, click Settings in the Manage Edits group.
The Editor Settings dialog box appears.
- Click the Topology side tab and expand Display.
- In the Appearance section, customize the following settings:
Color Change the color of the highlighted topology graph. Click the drop-down arrow and choose a color.
Scale Change the scale of the topology graph symbology. Drag the slider or click the drop-down arrow and choose a preset value.
- To restore all default topology settings, click Reset Page.
- Click OK.
Change the cluster tolerance
The cluster tolerance is the distance between feature vertices within which edges and nodes are constrained to be coincident and share the same location. By default, a minimum tolerance value is automatically calculated based on the data. This is the recommended setting.
Caution:
Increasing the cluster tolerance can reduce the spatial accuracy of topological edits, cause more features to be snapped together as coincident, and collapse or distort features.
To change the cluster tolerance, complete the following steps:
- On the Edit ribbon tab, click Settings in the Manage Edits group.
The Editor Settings dialog box appears.
- Click the Topology side tab and expand Map Topology.
- In the Cluster Tolerance section, choose one of the following settings:
Automatically calculate tolerance Automatically calculate a cluster tolerance based on the data. This is the recommended setting.
Use my tolerance Type a value and choose a unit setting.
- To restore all default topology settings, click Reset Page.
- Click OK.
