You can discover information about a database, geodatabase, cloud data warehouse, or Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) GeoPackage file to which you are connected in ArcGIS Pro using the Database Properties dialog box. You can access properties for the following in your project:
- Database connections, which include enterprise geodatabases, databases, and cloud data warehouses
- File geodatabases
- Mobile geodatabases
- SQLite database files and OGC GeoPackage files
To open these properties, right-click the file or connection in the Catalog pane and click Properties.
The properties listed on the dialog box vary for each of the data sources. These differences are described in the following sections.
Properties applicable to all
The following properties apply to connections to all the data sources listed above.
Name
This property displays the directory path for the database to which you're connected. This path is the location where the file geodatabase, SQLite database, or GeoPackage is stored. For enterprise geodatabases and databases, this is the location of the database connection (.sde) file.
Type
If you are unsure what type of file or connection you have, use the Type property on the Database Properties dialog box to determine whether you are connected to a file geodatabase, an SQLite database (which includes GeoPackage files), a mobile geodatabase, a specific database management system, or a specific cloud data warehouse. If the database management system has geodatabase capabilities enabled, the Type property will also indicate that.

Properties specific to geodatabases
If you are connected to a geodatabase, the Database Properties dialog box indicates whether the geodatabase is a replica involved in a distributed data workflow.
Geodatabase replication is a data distribution method provided through ArcGIS that allows you to distribute your data to different geodatabases and synchronize changes made to the data in each geodatabase. For more information, see Geodatabase replication fundamentals.
Properties specific to enterprise geodatabases
When you connect to an enterprise geodatabase, the Database Properties dialog box displays the properties described in the following sections. When you connect as the geodatabase administrator, additional functionality is available to you from this dialog box.
Connections
As a geodatabase administrator, you can prevent new connections to the geodatabase by unchecking the Geodatabase is accepting connections option. Existing connections remain active but no new connections can be made.
Note:
The geodatabase administrator can always connect to the geodatabase regardless of how this property is set.
You might block new connections to an enterprise geodatabase before performing maintenance operations such as compressing, upgrading, or making a full backup of the geodatabase.
To view existing connections to the geodatabase, click the Show connected users and locks button. This opens the Geodatabase Administration dialog box, where you can view the connected users and their connection properties, as well as manage locks.
Click the Locks tab of the Geodatabase Administration dialog box to view geodatabase locks held by each user.
If you connect as the geodatabase administrator, you can disconnect users to manage geodatabase locks from the Geodatabase Administration dialog box.
Upgrade status
Upgrading a geodatabase allows you to use the functionality available in the latest release of ArcGIS. Use the Upgrade Status property of the Database Properties dialog box to determine whether the geodatabase can be upgraded from the ArcGIS Pro client version from which you connect to the geodatabase.
You must connect to the geodatabase as the geodatabase administrator to upgrade.
Before you upgrade, ensure the following:
- That you need the functionality or bug fixes available in the version you to which you will upgrade.
- No one else in your organization requires the geodatabase to stay at the current version. For example, if a department is using a third-party app or plug-in that cannot yet support the newer version of the geodatabase but you upgrade the geodatabase, you leave them unable to use their app.
- The version of the database you're using is supported for the version of the geodatabase to which you're upgrading.
- You have a full backup of the database and no one else is connected to it.
Geodatabase version history
When you create or upgrade an enterprise geodatabase, the date and the associated geodatabase version are stored in the geodatabase. This information is displayed in the Geodatabase Version History section of the Database Properties dialog box.
You must connect to the geodatabase as the geodatabase administrator to access this information.
Because this information is available starting with ArcGIS Pro 3.1 and ArcGIS Server 11.1, versions and dates prior to those releases do not appear in the Geodatabase Version History table.
Enterprise license expiration
Enterprise geodatabases are licensed through ArcGIS Enterprise using the ArcGIS Server keycodes file. Check the Enterprise License Expiration property on the Database Properties dialog box to determine the expiration date for the license stored in your enterprise geodatabase.
If you connect as the geodatabase administrator, you can update the license before it expires.
To update the license, click the Update License button, browse to the new ArcGIS Server keycodes file, and click Open.
Tip:
The keycodes file is created when you authorize an ArcGIS Server installation. You may need to copy the file from the ArcGIS Server machine and place it in a directory that you can access from the ArcGIS Pro machine.
Editor tracking realm
The geodatabase administrator can set a realm for the geodatabase that will be appended to usernames recorded in editor tracking fields. See Introduction to editor tracking for more information.
