Update ArcGIS Pro

You can get updates for ArcGIS Pro by default when an update is released, or check for updates during a session.

You do not need to uninstall the previous version of ArcGIS Pro before installing the latest release.

Only one version of ArcGIS Pro can be installed on a machine at a time; when you install a new version, the old version is replaced.

Get ArcGIS Pro software updates

When a new version of ArcGIS Pro is available, a notification appears by default when you start ArcGIS Pro. Click the notification to open the ArcGIS Pro Settings page and download the software update.

If you are working in a project when a new version is available, a blue dot appears on the Notifications button Notifications at the top of the ArcGIS Pro window. Act on the notification to update the software.

Update notifications and language packs

If an ArcGIS Pro language pack is installed on your computer, update notifications for new software versions or patches do not appear until the language pack is available for that version or patch. This is true even if you are running ArcGIS Pro in English and not using the installed language pack. Learn more about setting language options.

Turn off update notifications

If you don't want to receive update notifications, you can turn them off.

  1. Open the ArcGIS Pro Settings page in either of the following ways:
    • On the ArcGIS Pro start page, click the Settings tab Settings.
    • In an open project, click the Project tab on the ribbon.
  2. In the list of tabs on the left, click About.
  3. On the About page, uncheck the Check for updates on startup check box.

Block updates

As an administrator, you can block the ability to update ArcGIS Pro from within the application. These settings apply only to per-machine installations of ArcGIS Pro.

To block all updates, browse to the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ESRI\ArcGISPro\Settings and set the value of CheckForUpdatesAtStartup to 0.

To selectively block certain release types, keep CheckForUpdatesAtStartup set to 1 and use one of the registry values described below.

Major releases may cause compatibility problems with documents and add-ins. To block updates for major releases only, browse to the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ESRI\ArcGISPro\Settings. Create a DWORD value named BlockMajorUpdateNotifications and set the value to 1.

Minor releases contain significant code changes that deliver new functionality. To block updates for both major and minor releases, browse to the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ESRI\ArcGISPro\Settings. Create a DWORD value named BlockMajorAndMinorUpdateNotifications and set the value to 1.
