Similar to ArcMap, ArcGlobe, and ArcScene, you are presented with several options when you start ArcGIS Pro: create a new file, open an existing one, or use a template to create a new file. With ArcGIS Pro, you create a project, which stores maps, scenes, and layouts. You can also choose to create a Catalog project, which provides an experience similar to ArcCatalog.
The table below summarizes the files created in different parts of ArcGIS Desktop and what they are in ArcGIS Pro.
ArcGIS Desktop application | Type of file created on startup | Equivalent project in ArcGIS Pro |
---|---|---|
ArcMap | Map | Map |
ArcCatalog | N/A | Catalog |
ArcGlobe | Globe | Global Scene |
ArcScene | Scene | Local Scene |
