Geometry properties

Geometry properties comprise the vertex x, y coordinate values, z-values, and m-values if they exist, for a selected feature. They appear in an editable table format with tools that edit or create sketch geometry, including the Edit Vertices tool Edit Vertices, the Attributes pane Attributes, and feature construction tools.

When you select a vertex in a map while editing sketch geometry, the corresponding row is scrolled to and highlighted in the table. The number of selected vertices appears in the geometry properties status bar.

The status bar

The geometry properties status bar appears at the bottom of the table and includes the following commands:

Show All Vertices Show All Records

Show all vertices.

Show Selected Vertices Show Selected Records

Show only the selected vertices.

Move To Beginning Move to start of table

Highlight the first vertex.

Move To End Move to end of table

Highlight the last vertex.

Clear Selection Clear Selection

Clear the selection.

Unit formats

Units for x and y coordinates display in map display units. You can change them in the Map Properties dialog box. Elevation units are defined by the vertical coordinate system assigned to the map. If a vertical coordinate system is not assigned, the units are based on the linear units defined by the x, y coordinate system.

In scenes, units for z-values are defined by the map elevation units.

The toolbar

The geometry properties toolbar appears at the top of the table. The available tools depend on the tool hosting geometry properties and the type of edits it makes.

The toolbar for the Edit Vertices tool Edit Vertices and editing template tools that create sketch geometry include the following commands:

Delete selected vertex Delete

Delete the vertex for the selected row. Clicking a row flashes the vertex in the map.

Update Z Values Update Z-Value

Apply the specified z-value to all selected vertices.

This command is only available for z-aware features.

Update M Values Update M-Value

Apply the specified m-value to the selected vertices.

This command is only available for m-aware features.

Finish Finish

Finish the edit and commit the feature to the data source. Alternatively, press F2.

Copy Copy

Copy the coordinate values for the selected rows to the clipboard. Coordinate values in the clipboard can be pasted to other elements in ArcGIS Pro such as text graphics, or to other applications such as Microsoft Excel.

The toolbar for the Attributes pane Attributes appears on the Geometry tab with the following default tools:

Move tool Move

Move the selected feature.

Edit Vertices tool Edit Vertices

Edit vertices for the selected feature.

Reshape tool Reshape

Reshape an existing line or polygon feature.

Replace Geometry tool Replace Geometry

Replace the entire shape of a selected point, line or polygon feature.

Split tool Split

Split line or polygon features by drawing a line or using selected input features.

Note:

The Geometry tab is only available in the Attributes pane if a single feature is selected.

The context menu

The geometry properties context menu contains commands for navigating and editing selected vertices. Commands that operate with a single vertex are not available if all vertices are selected.

The following commands are available on the context menu:

Insert Before Insert Before

Insert a vertex at the midpoint of the segment before the vertex row.

Insert After Insert After.

Insert a vertex at the midpoint of the segment after the vertex row.

Flash Flash

Flash the selected vertices in the map. Alternatively, click the row.

Zoom To Zoom to Highlighted

Zoom to the selected vertices in the map. Alternatively, double-click the leftmost cell.

Pan To Pan To Selection

Pan to the selected vertices in the map.

Delete Delete

Delete the vertex.

Note:

In addition to the above commands, the Convert Control Point to Vertex Convert Control Point to Vertex and Convert Vertex to Control Point Convert Vertex to Control Point commands are also available on the context menu if control points are enabled.

To learn more, see Enable control points or change symbology options.
